73 — Otago canoe bubble, Scaphander otagoensis

Scaphander otagoensis,
Challenger Plateau, TAN0707.
Scaphander otagoensis Dell 1956, is a canoe bubble shell (Scaphandridae) found in deep water around New Zealand. This smallish gastropod (~30mm) was first described from off Otago (hence the name otagoensis) from 476–640m. Very little appears to be known about it.

This one came from the northwest Challenger Plateau and was taken in a beam-trawl at a depth of ~1800m in 2007.
